Electromagnetic Scattering by Unbounded Rough Surfaces

چکیده
This paper is concerned with the analysis of the electromagnetic wave scattering in inhomogeneous medium with infinite rough surfaces. Consider a time-harmonic electromagnetic field generated by either a magnetic dipole or an electric dipole incident on an infinite rough surface. Throughout the dielectric permittivity is assumed to have a positive imaginary part which accounts for the energy absorption. The scattering problem is modeled as a boundary value problem governed by the Maxwell equations with transparent boundary conditions proposed on plane surfaces with the inhomogeneity in between. The existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the model problem are established by using a variational approach. The perfectly matched layer (PML) method is investigated to truncated the unbounded rough surface electromagnetic scattering problem in the direction away from the rough surfaces. It is shown that the truncated PML problem attains a unique solution. An explicit error estimate is given between the solution of the scattering problem and that of the truncated PML problem. The error estimate implies that the PML solution converges exponentially to the scattering solution by increasing either the PML medium parameter or the PML layer thickness. The convergence result is expected to be useful for determining the PML medium parameter in the computational electromagnetic scattering problem.

Variational Approach to Scattering by Unbounded Rough Surfaces with Neumann and Generalized Impedance Boundary Conditions∗
This paper is concerned with problems of scattering of time-harmonic electromagnetic and acoustic waves from an infinite penetrable medium with a finite height modeled by the Helmholtz equation. On the lower boundary of the rough layer, the Neumann or generalized impedance boundary condition is imposed. The scattered field in the unbounded homogeneous medium is required to satisfy the upward an...

This paper is concerned with a numerical solution for the scattering problem by an unbounded rough surface, which is referred to as a non-local perturbation of an infinite plane surface such that the whole surface lies within a finite distance of the original plane. A new and innovative spectral method is proposed to solve the unbounded rough surface scattering problem. The method uses a transf...
متن کاملSpeckle statistics of electromagnetic waves scattered from perfectly conducting random rough surfaces
By means of the extinction-theorem method, previously reported by J. M. Soto-Crespo and M. Nieto-Vesperinas [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 6, 367 (1989)], the intensity statistics of the s-polarized electromagnetic field scattered from randomly rough, perfectly conducting, one-dimensional surfaces are studied in the case of surface transverse correlation lengths larger than the wavelength. In particular, ...

─ This paper presents an investigation into the electromagnetic scattering characteristic of two-dimensional (2-D) layered rough surfaces by using a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm, which constitutes a three-dimensional scattering problem. The uniaxial perfectly matched layer medium is adopted for truncation of FDTD lattices, in which the finite-difference equations can be used f...
